May has a softness to it. The light shifts, the days stretch, and somewhere in the middle of it all we pause to thank the women who have shaped our lives. At Lav & Kush, we believe mothering — in every form it takes — is one of the most important kinds of work there is. It is quiet, constant, and almost never gets the standing ovation it deserves.

 

That's why this May, we are doing something we've been looking forward to for months. We are partnering with Mothers Matter Canada to support the 2026 Because Mothers Matter Awards with a Lav & Kush prize package — and we couldn't be more excited.

A Cause Close to Our Hearts

Mothers Matter Canada is a national charitable organization on a mission to break the cycle of social isolation and economic vulnerability for mothers and their children. Through at-home programs and social innovations, they support thousands of families each year — equipping mothers, especially newcomers, refugees, and Indigenous women, with the confidence, skills, and community they need to thrive.

 

Their guiding belief says it all: when mothers thrive, children flourish and communities prosper.

 

That truth lives at the heart of our brand too. Lav & Kush was built on the idea that women deserve to feel cared for in the clothes they wear — soft against the skin, considered in their construction, and made to move with the rhythms of real life. Whether you're rocking a baby at 3 a.m., running between school pickup and a work meeting, or finally sitting down with a cup of tea after a long day, you deserve to feel held by what you wear.

 

That is the bridge between us and Mothers Matter Canada. We both believe mothers should feel seen. We both believe care is something tangible — something you can wrap around a person.

About the Because Mothers Matter Awards

The Because Mothers Matter Awards (BMMAs) honour everyday Canadian mothers and mother figures — the women who go above and beyond to strengthen families, nurture communities, and uplift futures.

 

In 2025, the inaugural digital pilot recognized 618 mothers across the country. This year, the goal is to grow that reach significantly and position the BMMAs as Canada's premier annual celebration of mothers in May.

 

Here is what makes them special:

 

• It is FREE to nominate. Donations are appreciated but never required.
• Every nominated mother receives a personalized award delivered straight to her inbox, recognizing her contributions to her family and community.
• Every nominee is automatically entered to win a prize package — including ours.
• Nominations close May 31, 2026.

 

Amy Robichaud, CEO of Mothers Matter Canada, puts it beautifully: the work of mothering rarely makes headlines, and it almost never gets thanked. The BMMAs are a meaningful place to begin changing that — because when a mother's contributions are named out loud, she is reminded that she is seen and valued.
