Our From-Bamboo Material And Why It Matters

With bamboo being one of the fastest growing plants on the planet, it’s no wonder we’ve chosen it to be the shining star of Lav and Kush! Now more than ever we’re slowing down and considering the impact of our decisions. From what we literally consume, scouring the grocery stores for “non-GMO” labels and “pesticide free”, to the day to day manner of which we live our lives.

Consumers have changed. We’ve become more educated, therefore enabling us to make informed decisions, and as you know — Every little bit counts.

By using bamboo as our Lav and Kush signature, we’ve been able to contribute to the positive movement that’s sweeping the globe. We’re making a difference, and here’s how:

1 - I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again! Bamboo is the fastest growing plant on earth (the second, giant kelp). While many plants take decades or even centuries before ready to mature, bamboo can be harvested in around 3-5 years.

2 - Bamboo has incredible roots. It’s roots aid in it’s healthy cultivation and help classify this plant as relatively low-maintenance. By significantly increasing the water-retaining capabilities of the soil, the root system allows the plant to grow without the need for irrigation.

The extensive root system also makes this plant incredibly resilient. So much so that it was once planted as a fence between feuding neighbours. You can get rid of the neighbour, but you can never get rid of the bamboo.

3 - Bamboo is naturally pesticide free! Imagine if we looked at our clothing the same way we looked at our produce. We’ve transitioned to organic vegetables and pesticide free fruit, so why aren’t we looking for pesticide free clothing? After all, we consume that too.

With bamboo’s natural pest-omitting properties, we’re able to significantly reduce our exposure to toxins and irritants that could be harmful to our bodies.

4 - Like many other textiles, the production of bamboo has room for improvement. Luckily, with interest growing over the years, bamboo has become a point of interest for many looking to experiment with eco-friendly fibres. As technology advances and society shifts to a more sustainable way of living, the production of bamboo is set to follow suit.

Bamboo as a textile may not be at it’s peak quite yet, but we’re looking forward to seeing all of the new ways this ultra-soft material will be interpreted!

While the environmental impact is incredibly important, we thought it best to include a few “extra” ways we’re making a difference with our favourite textile — Bamboo.

5 - Ultra soft and incredibly breathable, bamboo allows for all day comfort. Not too hot, not too cool, and never too tight. It’s everything we could want from a textile and more!

6 - Due to the versatility of this fabric, we’re able to produce smaller capsule collections. You only need so many pieces in your wardrobe. We’re here to make sure you make the most of them. Rompers like the My Everything Romper are easy to dress up, dress down, or just throw on for a casual night in.

7 - Bamboo helps us to connect with you. We want to be mindful of what we put out into the world, and we want a community to share that with. By keeping you and your kiddos cozy as can be, we’re able to make that difference one romper at a time.
